‘America’s Game’ Heading to New England, Washington, D.C., Baltimore and New Jersey
The iconic Army-Navy football game, known as “America’s Game,” will be played away from Philadelphia, PA, for the next four years. The series will kick off in New England this Saturday, followed by Washington, D.C. in 2024, Baltimore in 2025, and New Jersey in 2026.
Historic Start for the 250th Anniversary of the Revolution
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy expressed excitement about hosting the game in New England, stating, “We’ve got our 250th anniversary of the Revolution coming up this year, and I can’t think of a better way to kick it off than with America’s Game here.”
Final Sendoff for Senior Players
Both teams, Army and Navy, enter Saturday’s game with a record of 5-6 and will not be playing in a bowl game this season. This makes the matchup an emotional final sendoff for seniors on both sides.
A Battle of Running Teams
Known historically for their running game, both Army and Navy will bring their strong offenses to the field in 2023. Army ranks 10th in the country with an average of 209 rushing yards per game, while Navy follows closely with an average of 200.5 yards per contest, placing them 14th in the nation.
Special Teams and Rushing Defense Will Define the Game
The outcome of the game is likely to be determined by special teams and rushing defense. Navy holds the advantage in rushing defense, allowing only 121.9 yards per game compared to Army’s 180.5.
Special Uniforms Honor Silent Service and 3rd Infantry Division
As always, the uniforms will receive significant attention. Navy and Under Armour have unveiled a uniform that pays tribute to the U.S. Submarine Force and its personnel. The uniform features a covert design inspired by a submarine hull, representing the Silent Service.
On the other hand, Army has partnered with Nike to wear uniforms that honor the soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division during the opening phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom. These uniforms aim to emulate the division’s mottos, symbols, and ethos.
Intense Rivalry and Recent Thrilling Matchups
Last year’s game provided a thrilling double-overtime matchup, with Army emerging as the victor. Navy currently leads the all-time series with a record of 62-54-7, but the two teams have evenly split the last four contests. The intensity of the rivalry ensures an exciting showdown on the football field.
