Former Political Advisor Argues Removing Trump from Ballots Plays into His Narrative
David Axelrod, a former political advisor, believes that the key to defeating Donald Trump lies in the polls, rather than attempting to remove him from election ballots. Axelrod stated, “I think if you’re going to beat Donald Trump, you’re going to probably have to do it at the polls.” He argued that trying to remove Trump from the ballots only reinforces his narrative that the Democratic Party is targeting him solely because of his presidential bid.
Trump’s Popularity Soars Despite Indictments
Axelrod further argued that the efforts by the left to remove Trump have backfired, as Trump’s popularity has only grown since facing numerous indictments. “We’ve run this experiment, he’s only gained since he started getting indicted,” Axelrod said. He emphasized that what was believed to be kryptonite for Trump has turned out to be battery packs, significantly boosting his appeal to supporters.
Legal Battle Continues with the U.S. Supreme Court
Recently, a ruling from the court removed Trump from the primary ballot in Colorado under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. However, the state’s secretary of state has decided to keep Trump on the ballot while the state GOP appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court. As Colorado is a Democratic-leaning state, it is not expected to be a competitive battleground for Republicans in the upcoming November election.
Maine Disqualifies Former from Ballot
In another development, Maine’s Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, disqualified a former candidate from the state’s presidential primary ballot, citing the same Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. This section prohibits individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding office. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to make the final decision on Trump’s eligibility.
