Former Governor Ups the Ante with $1 Million Ad Buy in New Hampshire
Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey and Republican presidential candidate, has released a new television ad that takes aim at former President Donald Trump. The ad, part of a seven-figure ad buy in New Hampshire, highlights Christie’s determination to challenge Trump in the upcoming election.
Christie’s Focus on New Hampshire
In his bid for national office, Christie faces a challenging uphill battle against Trump, who remains the leading contender for the Republican nomination. Similar to his 2016 campaign, Christie is concentrating his efforts in New Hampshire, a state known for its influential primary and the crucial role played by independent voters and moderates.
Since declaring his candidacy in June, Christie has been running a cost-effective campaign, relying on support from the super PAC Tell It Like It Is. However, in recent weeks, Christie has intensified his efforts, increasing the number of events he attends with Granite State voters and investing at least $1 million in television advertisements.
Direct Criticism of Trump
Christie, who has become a vocal critic of the former president, uses his new ad to accuse Trump of dividing Americans and attacking those who disagree with him. Referring to the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters, Christie claims that Trump is willing to burn America to the ground for his own benefit.
Highlighting the choice facing voters, Christie asks, “What kind of President do we want? A liar or someone who has the guts to tell the truth?” He concludes the ad by urging New Hampshire voters to make their voices heard.
Challenges and Calls to Consolidate
Despite his efforts, Christie currently lags behind in third place in recent polls in New Hampshire, trailing behind Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Haley’s recent endorsement by popular Republican Governor Chris Sununu has sparked calls for Christie to withdraw from the race to consolidate the anti-Trump vote.
However, Christie remains steadfast in his commitment to challenge Trump directly, emphasizing that he is the only candidate willing to publicly criticize the former president. He has made it clear that he has no intention of stepping aside, stating, “I’m not going anywhere, so let’s be really clear about that.”
