Posts during George Floyd Protests
Amidst the protests following the death of George Floyd, a former prosecutor, Blacknell, shared a post on social media platform X that referred to the protestors as “barbarians” and “an occupying army.” She also used the “#DefundPolice” hashtag. In another post, Blacknell expressed her belief that prisons are obsolete, urging Americans to “reimagine America without it.” She quoted Angela Davis, stating that prisons do not solve problems but instead make them disappear. Blacknell’s activism extended to wearing a shirt that boldly declared, “the police are trained to kill us.”
Controversial Plea Deal and Past Looting
The former prosecutor faced heavy criticism in 2020 after allegedly offering a “sweetheart” plea deal in a gang murder case without the knowledge of the prosecutor and the victim’s family. This incident further fueled the controversy surrounding Blacknell. Moreover, she admitted to participating in looting during the 1992 riots. Reflecting on those events, she wrote, “I was furious, sad, and scared. We watched our city burn, and when the opportunity arose, we took some stuff.” Blacknell emphasized that she didn’t want to hear complaints about protestors or looters, stating that the destruction of her community was far more impactful than any material loss experienced by others.
Response from Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office
Fox News Digital reached out to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for comment on Blacknell’s controversial social media posts. The office was asked to provide their perspective on the matter.
