Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley has requested additional protection due to multiple security issues.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Haley discussed her concerns about safety after experiencing various incidents. Despite the threats, she remains determined to carry on with her campaign.
Security concerns addressed
Haley addressed the issue of heightened security measures during a news conference last week. She acknowledged that engaging in politics often attracts threats, emphasizing the need for additional security personnel.
Although she mentioned the necessity of having “a few more bodies around us,” Haley reassured reporters that it has not affected her ability to campaign. She affirmed her commitment to connect with voters, answer questions, and fulfill the demands of her campaign.
Heckler incident at campaign event
Shortly after Haley’s comments, a heckler was removed from one of her campaign events in Hilton Head, South Carolina. This incident further highlights the need for increased security measures.
Two-candidate showdown
Once considered a long shot for the nomination, Haley gained momentum in the polls during the late summer and autumn. Her well-received performances in the early debates contributed to her rise.
With Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis dropping out of the race last month, the nomination contest is now primarily between Haley and the commanding frontrunner, President Trump. Haley earned 43% of the vote in the recent New Hampshire primary, trailing Trump by 11 points.
Upcoming primary in Haley’s home state
The next major contest on the Republican schedule is the GOP primary in Haley’s home state of South Carolina, set for February 24. However, recent polls indicate that President Trump has a significant lead over Haley.
Despite the challenges, Haley remains resolute in her campaign and determined to make her mark on the race for the White House.
