Accused of Forming Criminal Organization
Arrest Made in Portugal
Berlin, Germany – A German man, who allegedly formed an armed group to oppose government measures against the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, has been apprehended in Portugal, German prosecutors reported on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, had been residing in Bavaria and was officially charged in June, according to prosecutors in Koblenz. Alongside two others, he stands accused of establishing a criminal organization known as “Paladin” in early 2021, with the aim of countering coronavirus measures imposed by the authorities.
Weapon Production and Training Sessions
The suspect is further alleged to have utilized a 3D printer to manufacture weapon components and conducted training sessions with fellow members of the group. However, prosecutors have clarified that no evidence has emerged to suggest plans for an actual attack.
Apprehension in Portugal
The suspect’s whereabouts had remained unknown since at least June, until Portuguese authorities made the arrest last month. He is currently held in pre-extradition custody in Portugal, although the timing and possibility of his transfer to Germany remain uncertain.
