The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the sudden death of a high school student during a basketball game, according to The Daily Journal. The incident occurred when the student, identified as Crite, collapsed while returning to the defensive side of the floor.

The Momence School District Superintendent, Shannon Anderson, expressed deep sadness over the tragic loss of the ninth-grade student, which took place on January 25, 2024. In a statement, Anderson extended condolences to the family and friends affected by the devastating event.

In light of the tragedy, Anderson assured that counselors and mental health support would be provided to those in need, emphasizing the importance of emotional well-being during this difficult time. The superintendent urged the community to come together and support one another during the grieving process.

The student’s mother, Michelle, has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the funeral expenses. The page appeals to everyone for help, regardless of the donation size, and requests prayers for the family. At the time of publication, the GoFundMe campaign had already exceeded its $15,000 goal, with nearly $53,000 raised.
