Background
A lawyer named Langston, who had previously pleaded guilty to attempting to influence a judge by providing favors, is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee. Langston’s company, Langston Law Firm Consulting Inc., had made payments totaling over $200,000 to James and Sara Biden, as well as their entity, Lion Hall Group.
Focus of the Testimony
The House Republicans are interested in understanding the nature and purpose of these payments, which were made while Joe Biden served as vice president. They hope to gather information on whether Joe Biden took any official action or changed government policy in response to money or other favors provided to himself or his family. Additionally, they aim to investigate whether Joe Biden abused his office by providing foreign interests with access in exchange for payments.
Previous Testimonies
Prior to Langston, Hunter Biden’s business associates, Eric Schwerin, Rob Walker, and Mervyn Yan, had already appeared before the committee. However, all three testified that they were not aware of any involvement by President Biden in his son’s business dealings.
Upcoming Testimony
Langston’s testimony is set to be followed by a deposition of President Biden’s brother, James Biden, scheduled for February 21. The committees had subpoenaed James Biden last year. Hunter Biden, who had initially defied his subpoena, has agreed to appear for a closed-door deposition on February 28.
