Emotional Moment on “FOX NFL Sunday”
Former Dallas Cowboys coach, Jimmy Johnson, was officially inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor by team owner, Jerry Jones. The emotional moment took place on “FOX NFL Sunday”, where Johnson appeared visibly moved as he discussed the significance of the honor.
A Final Chapter
Speaking about his induction, Johnson described it as “kind of a final chapter” in his career. He reminisced about his journey, from college and professional football to various other prestigious honors, such as the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame and the University of Miami Ring of Honor. Johnson expressed gratitude for having his family, friends, players, and coaches present during this special moment.
Support from Former Players and Friends
During his emotional speech, Johnson was comforted and supported by former players and friends, Michael Strahan and Terry Bradshaw. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also made a surprise appearance to present Johnson with a letter of intent, expressing the coach’s significant influence on his life.
A Select Group
With his induction, Jimmy Johnson joins legendary coach Tom Landry as one of only two coaches alongside 19 players and two executives in the exclusive Cowboys Ring of Honor.
A Thank You to Jerry Jones
In his address to the crowd, Johnson expressed gratitude to team owner Jerry Jones for bringing him to the Dallas Cowboys. The coach left the team after the 1993 season, following a high-level split with Jones. Speculation arose regarding credit for the team’s turnaround, which culminated in back-to-back Super Bowl victories in 1992 and 1993. However, Johnson emphasized that they had worked together and made history, stating they never had a difference of opinion.
Closing the Chapter
Although Johnson went on to coach other teams and eventually transitioned to television, this induction into the Cowboys Ring of Honor signifies the final closing of a chapter in his relationship with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.
