The Actress Shares Her Experience as a Proud Mom
During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Julia Roberts opened up about her children’s transition to higher education. The renowned actress confirmed that she has been actively involved in attending their sports games and cheering for their school teams. With a sense of pride, she exclaimed, “You become immediately like, ‘This is my entire life.’ I wear the colors, I do the whole thing.”
Acknowledging Her Children’s Support
While promoting her latest film, “Leave the World Behind,” Roberts also mentioned her children in an interview on “Today.” She expressed immense appreciation for her older kids, emphasizing that they allow her to continue being their mother without any eye-rolling. She further explained, “There’s a huge amount of understanding,” highlighting the strong bond she shares with her children.
Roberts added, “I parent them in the same way out of the house as I do in the house. I ensure they get enough sleep, check if they sound sick, and even request them to text me when they arrive home safely.”
Reflecting on Her Own College Decision
The star of “Pretty Woman” revealed that she did not have the opportunity to experience college herself. Growing up in a suburb outside of Atlanta, Georgia, Roberts made a different choice. Instead of pursuing higher education, she decided to move to New York to pursue her acting career.
In a 1990 interview with the New York Times, Roberts explained her decision, stating, “I had convinced myself that I had three choices: I could get married, I could go to college, or I could move to New York. Nobody was asking to get married, and I didn’t want to go away to school, so I moved.”
A Family Connection in the Industry
In 1985, at the age of 18, Roberts made the move to New York, joining her brother Eric Roberts, who is also an actor. Eric, known for his own successful career, is the father of actress Emma Roberts. While auditioning for acting roles, Julia also worked as a model.
Her first filmed project was “Blood Red,” where she acted alongside her brother. However, the movie wasn’t released until 1989. It was her breakout role in the 1988 film “Mystic Pizza” that propelled her to stardom. Reflecting on their relationship, Eric humorously claimed credit for Julia’s success, stating, “If it wasn’t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts and no Emma Roberts as celebrities, as actresses, and I’m very proud of that.”
While “Blood Red” finally hit theaters in the same year, it was the release of “Steel Magnolias” that same year that solidified Julia Roberts’ status as a true movie star. In 1990, her iconic role in “Pretty Woman” further cemented her place in Hollywood.
