A Festive Wonderland in Ascot
Tucked away in Swinley Forest on the Crown Estate in Ascot lies a hidden gem that rivals even the world-famous Glastonbury. LaplandUK, a six-week Christmas immersive experience, has captured the hearts of children and adults alike with its enchanting festivities. From high-profile attendees to sold-out tickets, this magical wonderland is the place to be.
From Hedge Funds to Holiday Magic
Founded in 2007 by former hedge fund trader Mike Battle and his ex-teacher wife Alison, LaplandUK was born out of a quest to find the perfect Christmas experience for their four young boys. Dissatisfied with options available both locally and abroad, they took matters into their own hands. Despite their occasional squabbles, the Battles form a dynamic duo, working tirelessly to create a truly mesmerizing adventure for all.
A Personalized Journey to the North Pole
At LaplandUK, children are hailed as the “Small Folk” and receive personalized invitations from Father Christmas himself. The attention to detail is remarkable, with each invitation sealed with wax and presented in an exquisite box. The company’s commitment to preserving the magic is evident, as they refrain from traditional advertising, leaving children with the belief that they have been personally chosen by the man from the North Pole.
A Festive Extravaganza
Upon entering LaplandUK, guests are transported into a world of interactive theater and immersive performances. The 90-minute show captivates both young and old, followed by a visit to the bustling toy factory, where children have the opportunity to assist Santa’s diligent elves. Gingerbread decorating classes await at the charming “Mother Christmas” Kitchen, while encounters with real huskies and reindeer add an authentic touch to the experience.
Complete with an ice skating rink, quaint cafes, a post office, and a sweet shop, LaplandUK caters to every whim. The Battles have even introduced a restaurant to ensure visitors can savor the flavors of the season. Every child leaves with a husky soft toy from Father Christmas, a cherished memento from the toy factory, a thank you card, and a framed picture with the beloved Saint Nick. The entire journey spans approximately four hours, creating memories to last a lifetime.
The Rise of Festive Moguls
The Battles’ dedication to spreading holiday cheer extends beyond LaplandUK. They have penned six books, delving into the untold stories of Father Christmas and the secrets of the Christmas Elves. Their podcast, Elfcasts, has garnered a loyal following as well. With plans to expand internationally, the Battles are on a mission to bring their magical wonderland to families around the world.
Though the pandemic presented challenges, forcing them to operate under social distancing guidelines and limit their opening hours, the Battles persevered. They admit to weathering financial losses but credit these hardships for their recent expansion. In a heartwarming gesture, they have established a charity foundation dedicated to providing stockings to every child spending Christmas Eve in a UK hospital.
LaplandUK is a testament to the power of imagination and the indescribable joy that the holiday season brings. As families eagerly anticipate their visit to this whimsical wonderland, LaplandUK continues to remind us all of the magic that lies within our hearts.
