Carnival Season Finale in New Orleans
As Carnival season wraps up on Tuesday, thousands are anticipated to fill the streets of New Orleans and its neighboring areas for the vibrant Mardi Gras festivities. The celebration is set to feature parade floats, local street parties, and bustling restaurants and bars in the historic French Quarter.
Rich Traditions and Diverse Celebrations
The iconic Rex Organization, established in the 19th century, will lead the Fat Tuesday revelries with a new local dignitary donning the role of Rex, King of Carnival each year. Alongside, the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, originating from Black laborers in the early 1900s, will also parade through the city.
Star-Studded Royalty and Colorful Throws
Actor Kevin Dillon, reigning as the king of the Krewe of Bacchus, graced the celebrations on Sunday. The event has seen past kings such as William Shatner, John Ritter, and Billy Crystal. Despite chilly temperatures and gusty winds forecasted for Tuesday, the festivities are expected to continue with enthusiastic crowds vying for the sought-after “throws” – vibrant plastic bead necklaces, stuffed animals, and other colorful trinkets.
