Past and Present Mix-Up
During the annual meeting, President Biden found himself in an embarrassing situation when he mentioned conversations with late world leaders. First, he claimed to have spoken with the late German Chancellor Kohl, who had been dead for four years. Then, he referenced a conversation with François Mitterrand, a French president who passed away in 1996. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was present at the meeting, not Kohl.
Series of Strange Statements
These recent incidents add to President Biden’s history of puzzling comments involving deceased individuals. At a 2022 gathering, he suggested speaking with the inventor of insulin, even though the co-discoverers were either deceased before his birth or lived for many years after. During a White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, Biden mistakenly expected the late Indiana Republican Rep. Jackie Walorski to be present, unaware of her recent passing in a car crash. He also misattributed concerns about America under Trump to the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, referring to her instead of former Prime Minister Theresa May.
The Biden Perspective
When questioned about these mistakes, President Biden dismissed them as “Freudian slips” and clarified his intentions. However, these incidents raise concerns about his grasp on historical and current events.
