Norman Remains Haley’s Sole Supporter in Congress
Rep. Ralph Norman, a member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus, has been an unwavering supporter of Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign since its early days. While a handful of lawmakers initially backed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis before he dropped out, Norman has remained Haley’s only supporter in Congress. Despite facing pressure to drop out from fellow Republicans, Norman firmly believes that the race is far from over.
Norman Defends Haley’s Rise in the Race
Speaking with Fox News Digital shortly after former President Donald Trump’s victory in the New Hampshire primary, Norman highlighted Haley’s remarkable journey in the presidential race. He emphasized that Haley started with just 2% support and no significant financial backing, yet has managed to rise above the challenges. Norman, who is 25 years younger than Trump, acknowledged the immense task of undoing the damage caused by the current administration.
Criticism of Republicans Pressuring Haley to Drop Out
Norman voiced his disapproval of fellow Republicans, including Republican National Party Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who have been pushing Haley to withdraw from the race. He criticized McDaniel for overstepping her role, questioning why competition should be seen as detrimental. Additionally, Norman expressed surprise and disappointment at Sen. Tim Scott’s endorsement of Trump without consulting Haley. Despite these controversies, Norman has managed to avoid any backlash from Trump and his supporters.
Norman’s Unwavering Support for Trump and Haley
Norman emphasized that he has never criticized Trump and has consistently supported his actions in office. He revealed that he personally called Trump to inform him of his endorsement of Haley. Norman also defended Haley’s eligibility for two terms, stating that she can potentially serve eight years compared to Trump’s one remaining term. While he disagrees with Trump’s decision to exclude Haley’s donors from the “MAGA” camp, Norman believes that Trump will need all the votes he can get to defeat the eventual Democratic nominee.
Norman’s Final Thoughts
Despite their disagreements, Norman acknowledged Trump’s strategic abilities and affirmed his belief in Trump’s ability to run his own campaign. However, Norman remains steadfast in his support for Haley, confident in her accomplishments and her potential to lead the country for eight years.
