Law Enforcement Response Praised
Ohio Attorney General, John Miller, has condemned a recent ‘swatting incident’ that occurred in Licking County. The incident, which involved a false emergency call that drew a response from law enforcement, not only put lives at risk but also resulted in a significant waste of resources.
Miller expressed his gratitude towards Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp and his team for their swift and professional response to the incident. He recognized the importance of their expeditious actions in dealing with such potentially dangerous situations.
Swatting: A Dangerous and Disruptive Phenomenon
‘Swatting’ refers to the act of making a false emergency call to 911, with the intention of provoking a response from law enforcement, often involving a SWAT team. This dangerous practice puts innocent lives at risk and diverts valuable resources away from genuine emergencies.
The Licking County Sheriff’s Department has been approached by Fox News Digital to provide further information about the incident.
Increasing Incidents of Swatting
This incident is just one of many recent occurrences of swatting across the country. Earlier this month, the nonprofit organization Secure Community Network (SCN) reported over 24 hours of swatting incidents targeting Jewish facilities in numerous states.
In another incident, on Christmas day, two Republican lawmakers, Rep. Brandon Williams of New York and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, fell victim to swatting. Greene revealed that this was the eighth time she had experienced such an incident.
Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating both incidents to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Swatting remains a serious concern, not only for the safety of individuals involved but also for the strain it places on law enforcement resources. Efforts to combat this dangerous phenomenon are ongoing as authorities work to raise awareness and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
