Record-Breaking Concert Film Joins Disney+ Lineup
The highly anticipated concert movie, ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,’ will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting March 15. This announcement by the Walt Disney Co. highlights the immense popularity and economic success of the pop superstar, once again proving her dominance in the industry.
Box Office Success and Worldwide Appeal
‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,’ distributed by AMC Theatres, was a box office hit, grossing $96 million during its first four days in the domestic market. This made it the highest-grossing opening for a concert film. The movie went on to become the 10th highest-grossing movie of 2023 in the U.S. and Canada, earning approximately $179 million. Its global earnings surpassed $260 million, solidifying Swift’s international appeal.
Continuing Partnership with Disney+
This streaming deal further strengthens Taylor Swift’s relationship with Disney+. The platform is already home to her ‘Folklore: Long Pond Studio Sessions,’ where she delivered intimate renditions of tracks from her Grammy-winning album. The extended version of ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ will include additional songs not featured in the theatrical release, including her hit single ‘Cardigan’ from the ‘Folklore’ album, as well as acoustic performances.
Grammy Success and Upcoming Projects
Taylor Swift was the star of the 66th Grammy Awards, winning the coveted Album of the Year award for ‘Midnights’ and setting a new record for the most wins in this category. During her acceptance speech for the Best Pop Vocal Album award, she announced the upcoming release of her new album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ scheduled for April.
A Tour to Remember
The North American leg of Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ broke records, generating over $700 million in ticket sales and propelling her to billionaire status. The concert movie captures the electrifying performances from her six-night residency at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Since then, Swift has taken her tour overseas, with several shows lined up in Tokyo. Her boyfriend, NFL superstar Travis Kelce, is also set to play in this year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
