A Different Scenario
A year later, the Cincinnati Bengals’ director of player personnel, Duke Tobin, has acknowledged that the team may need to find a replacement for star receiver Tee Higgins. Tobin stated that last year, Higgins was under contract, drafted to be a contributor to the team. However, Higgins is now a free agent, and the Bengals will need to navigate the situation to secure his services.
Options on the Table
The Bengals have a few options for Higgins’ contract this offseason. They can offer him a long-term extension, place the franchise tag on him, or let him explore free agency. If they choose the franchise route, Higgins could earn an estimated $22 million in 2024. However, he would become a free agent again the following season, unless the Bengals decide to tag and trade him to another team.
Desire to Keep Higgins
Tobin expressed the organization’s preference to retain Tee Higgins. He mentioned that everyone on the team wants him back and emphasized their desire to have him contribute. However, Tobin also acknowledged that there are limitations due to salary cap considerations and other roster needs. The team remains in a wait-and-see mode, evaluating the best course of action.
Future Priorities
In addition to Higgins’ contract situation, the Bengals will also need to address a contract extension for their three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. This further adds to the team’s list of priorities in the near future.
