Biden’s Economic Policies Fail to Impress Voters
Despite President Biden’s claims of progress on the economic front, a recent poll shows that a majority of registered voters still believe that former President Donald Trump would be the better candidate to navigate the country’s economic challenges. The numbers reveal a concerning trend for the Biden administration as it struggles to gain confidence from the American public.
Trump Leads in Multiple Categories
The poll, conducted by Democrat pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates and Republican pollster Bill McInturff, highlights Trump’s dominance over Biden in several key areas. Trump leads by a significant 35 points when it comes to handling the economy, and also enjoys a 23-point advantage in terms of mental and physical health qualifications for the presidency. Additionally, Trump holds commanding leads in dealing with crime and violence (+21), being competitive and effective (+16), and improving America’s standing in the world (+11).
Concerns Over Biden’s Deteriorating Standing
Of particular concern for the Biden camp is the steep decline in public perception compared to the previous election. The poll reveals a massive shift from 2020, where Biden led Trump by nine points in terms of being competitive and effective. Democrat pollster Jeff Horwitt emphasizes the gravity of the results, stating, “What is most concerning is the erosion of Biden’s standing against Trump compared to four years ago. On every measure compared to 2020, Biden has declined. Most damning, the belief that Biden is more likely to be up to the job has evaporated.”
Approval Ratings Plunge
The poll also reflects President Biden’s declining approval ratings, which have reached a new low for his presidency at just 37%. The combination of waning public confidence and lukewarm approval numbers paints a challenging picture for the administration moving forward.
Trump Leads in Hypothetical Rematch
Looking ahead to a hypothetical rematch in the 2024 general election, Trump maintains a five-percentage-point lead over Biden among registered voters. The poll underscores the enduring support that Trump enjoys among a significant portion of the electorate.
This poll, conducted from January 26 to 30, surveyed 1,000 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The results serve as a sobering reminder for the Biden administration as it grapples with public perception and seeks to regain confidence on the economic front.
