Labor Dispute Continues
In a series of ongoing labor disputes, the Ver.di union in Germany has announced a one-day strike involving ground staff for Lufthansa at seven major airports.
The strike is set to impact operations at Frankfurt and Munich airports, Lufthansa’s key hubs, as well as airports in Berlin, Duesseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne-Bonn, and Stuttgart.
This action, scheduled from 4 a.m. Tuesday to 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, follows a recent 27-hour strike at five of the same airports that resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
Union Demands
The union is pressing for pay raises of 12.5%, or a minimum of 500 euros ($539) more per month, for approximately 25,000 employees encompassing roles such as check-in, aircraft handling, maintenance, and freight staff.
Despite failed negotiations on February 12, further talks are slated for Wednesday as the union stands firm on its demands.
These “warning strikes” represent a common strategy in German labor negotiations, adding pressure to employers to meet employee demands.
